Imagine what might have happened had an elite group of brass players come together in the late eighteenth century to delve into the archive of amazing Baroque music and arrange pieces for themselves to play. They would undoubtedly have played to their strengths and featured the best players of the day to show off the capabilities of their instruments, pushing the boundaries of what was possible with new techniques which were being developed at the time such as hand stopping and vent holes.
This is exactly what Blackadder Baroque Brass aims to do, bringing together some of the finest players today, playing music that was not necessarily originally written for brass in some fantastic new transcriptions of both much loved and lesser-known pieces from the Baroque period. Music by Handel, Bach, Telemann, Vivaldi, Purcell, Rameau, Scarlatti, Charpentier and many others.
We are also committed to giving young, talented up and coming players from the next generation the chance to shine by performing with us. They will gain invaluable experience by playing alongside our established players and our group will act as a gateway ensemble for them to enter the music profession.
